G

As with all these lists there tends to be a lot of recent items in there for no good reason other than they've recently been on peoples minds.

The Kite Runner is shocking, starts off ok, but turns into some kind of Ultimate Force / Danielle Steel nonsense.

Five people you meet in heaven is a nice idea, but not that great a book.

Oh, and the Secret History was (for reasons I can't remember), really poor. I think the characters weren't very convincing, and the plot a shocker.

Mind you all of the above I did at least finish so they can't have been that bad...

Stuart

Yeah, and the "greatest albums of all time" lists feature the fucking Kaiser Chiefs. Not read or heard of any of those books. Must be living in a cave!
Cheers

Quite right!

History needs to judge, not some 18 year old NME reader!

Stay in the cave dude...

I also read Time travellers wife and Life of Pi, so am doing okay from
a contemporary perspective...

I'm between books at the moment.

Maybe I should pick a random number and go with it...

er 63, doh
49 read it.
71 seen the film,
64 hmm..

Stuart

You read Catcher in the Rye? You'd like that I bet.

g

Yeah read it, liked it.

Phil

I don't understand 36 coming after 33 - looks like double-counting. (If the CoN were below TLTW&TW in the list you could parse the former as _the *Less Famous* Chronicles of Narnia_, but not this way round.)

You're admirably sparing with the strikethroughs. The notation's a bit primitive - nothing for "read (by choice, as an adult) and hated", or for "OK, maybe not cover to cover, but I've read a lot of it" (see 6 and 14).

Stuart

Phil, I'm sure more of those books deserved strike-throughs, but I'd never heard of them! Also, not sure someone who bolds and underlines an Enid Blyton is in a position to be too picky!
